Legacy NDE Portal – Access & Activation Codes

The Legacy NDE Portal is the existing platform that allows users to access data collections, reporting tools, and applications.

Key characteristics include:

• Users create their own accounts (no SSO)
• Activation Codes issued by District Administrators, typically the superintendent, grant access to specific applications.
• System access must be actively managed by District Administrators, especially when staff change roles or leave the district.

The Legacy NDE Portal will remain available until all applications are transitioned into the New NDE Portal.

Portal Access

Access the Legacy NDE Portal at: https://portal.education.ne.gov/ and by clicking on the Legacy NDE Portal tile.

How to Sign In or Register

Register (Create a New Account)

1. Select the blue Register on the sign‑in page
2. Complete the required fields (username, password, profile details).
3. Submit the form to create your Legacy NDE Portal account.

Registration Requirements

When creating an account in the Legacy NDE Portal, users must provide:

• First Name
• Last Name
• Phone Number (must use dashes (000-000-0000))
• Email Address (school email address)
• Login ID (must be for 4-20 characters)
• Password (must be for 8-20 characters and must include at least one ALPHA character and one numeric value)

Note: There is a list of non-acceptable characters for Login ID and Password on the registration page.

Sign In

1. Navigate to the NDE Portal login page: https://portal.education.ne.gov/
2. Select the Legacy Portal tile
3. Enter your Login ID and Password in the Portal Sign In section
4. Select Sign In

Forgot Password

1. Select Forgot Password on the sign‑in page.
2. Follow the prompts to reset your password.

Activation Codes (Regular Users)

Access to applications in the Legacy NDE Portal requires an Activation Code issued by your District Administrator, typically the superintendent.

The Legacy NDE Portal uses Activation Codes to grant access to specific data collections or student/staff record systems.

When You Need an Activation Code

You will need an Activation Code if you want to access:

• Data Collections
• Student & Staff Systems
• Other controlled applications within the Legacy NDE Portal

How Regular Users Obtain an Activation Code

• Contact your District Administrator, typically the superintendent, at the school.
• Inform them which application or collection you need access to.
• Your District Admin will issue the Activation Code to you.

Note:

• Activation Codes are district‑specific and role‑specific.
• You cannot request Activation Codes from NDE directly as a regular user.

How to Enter an Activation Code

Once you receive a code:

1. Log into your Legacy NDE Portal account
2. Navigate to the appropriate tab for the collection
3. Locate the collection in the Online section in the tab choice
4. Click the Add link in front of the title of the collection
5. Add the activation code in the following screen in the Activation Code box
6. Click the Add button
7. Return to the appropriate tab for the collection
8. The collection should be located in the Available section
