286 – Special Education Setting Code Invalid for Part B at Beginning of School Year

Article Contents

ERROR DESCRIPTION

Student is age 3 as of October 1st or ages 4-5 and should have a Special Education Setting code valid for a student who is Part B Ages 3-5. Students age 5 who are in Kindergarten may have any Part B Special Education Setting code.

DETAILS

The student is three years old as of October 1st of the school year or the student is between the ages of four and five years old and has a Special Education record. The student’s Special Education Setting code is not an appropriate code for the student who is receiving IDEA Part B services at the beginning of the school year. If the student is receiving Special Education services, there are very specific Special Education Setting codes to coordinate with the Special Education programs (IDEA Part C & Part B).

Note: The Special Education Setting codes can be found in the ADVISER Data Elements guide for the appropriate school year in the ADVISER Resource website

FIX

If the student is receiving Special Education services and are three years old as of October 1st, change the Special Education Setting code to the appropriate code for the student in the SIS or SRS and then sent into ADVISER.

If the student is receiving Special Education services and between the ages of four and five years old, change the Special Education Setting code to the appropriate code for the student in the SIS or SRS and then sent into ADVISER.

If the student is no longer receiving Special Education services, Special Education record needs an End Date and Reason Exited with the appropriate codes for the Special Educational Setting code for the student in the SIS or SRS and then sent into ADVISER.
