499 – Age is out of range for “Developmental Delay” Disability

Article Contents

ERROR DESCRIPTION

Only children ages 8 and under may be reported with a developmental delay disability. Age is calculated as of today or age on the date the student exited SPED.

DETAILS

Only students between birth and eight years old are eligible to qualify for Special Education services under the “15” (Developmental Delay) disability category. At this time, the student exceeds the age limit to qualify under this disability.

If the student is currently receiving Special Education services, their age is calculated as of today. If the student is no longer receiving services, their age is determined based on the “End Date” recorded in the Special Education record.

Note: The Special Education Disability codes can be found in the ADVISER Data Elements guide for the appropriate school year in the ADVISER Resource website

FIX

If the student’s date of birth is incorrect, update it in the ADVISER Person ID system. ADVISER Person ID and ADVISER sync nightly, and the updated date of birth will be reflected in ADVISER the following day.

If the student is nine years old and receiving Special Education services, update the “Disability” field on the Special Education record in the SIS or SRS, and submit the updated information to ADVISER.

If the student is nine years old and no longer receiving Special Education services, verify the “End Date” on the Special Education record in the SIS or SRS. If any changes are made, submit the updated information to ADVISER. If the information is accurate, the error will remain active for the student. The district may choose to add a comment to the error and/or archive it.
