ERROR DESCRIPTION
A student who will still be age 21 as the end of the school year (6/30) has a Special Education program reported with an Exit Reason of SPED05 “Reached Maximum Age”. Students who are 21 years old are still considered to be school age. Please correct the special education program for the student, or verify the student’s birth date is correct in the ADVISER Person ID system.
DETAILS
Students who turn 21 during the school year remain eligible for educational services until the end of the school year (June 30th). If a student stops receiving Special Education services before the school year ends, the “Reason Exited” cannot be reported as “SPED05” (Reached Maximum Age).
The Special Education Reason Exited of “SPED05” (Reached Maximum Age) is for students who have exited Special Education because of reaching the maximum age of 21 and did not receive a diploma.
Note: The definitions of Special Education “Reason Exited” can be found in the ADVISER Data Elements for the appropriate school year on the ADVISER Resource website.
FIX
If the student is 21 years old and no longer receiving Special Education services before the end of the school year, update the Reason Exited in the Special Education program record to a more appropriate transfer out code in SRS or the SIS and submit the updated information to ADVISER.
If the student is younger than 21 years old and no longer receiving Special Education services, update the Reason Exited in the Special Education program record to a more appropriate transfer out code in SRS or the SIS and submit the updated information to ADVISER.
If the student is receiving Special Education services, remove the Reason Exited code in the Special Education record and submit the updated information to ADVISER.
