Accessing the New NDE Portal

The New NDE Portal provides streamlined, secure access to NDE applications and collections. Key features include:

  • Single Sign‑On (SSO) for most public school districts and ESUs
  • No activation codes needed
  • Users may request access directly to applications
  • District Admins approve or assign access in the new interface

You can access the New NDE Portal at: https://portal.education.ne.gov/

Sign In Using NebraskaCloud SSO

The NebraskaCloud is managed by the Education Service Unit Coordinating Council (ESUCC). Majority of public schools and a few other school systems use the NebraskaCloud SSO system, if your school system does not appear in the list, see the Alternative Sign In Options below.

  1. Go to the NDE Portal website and select the New Portal tile.
  2. Click the big blue “Click Here” button
  3. Choose your District/System from the dropdown list.
    • If your district/system does not appear, select the alternate sign‑in option (noted on the page).
  4. Enter the credentials you normally use to sign in at your district

Common Sign‑In Notes

  • SSO uses your district login, not a separate portal password.
  • If you cannot log in, your district tech department or ESU may need to update your status or group access

Staff Movement Between Districts

If you recently transferred to a new district, you will use your new school email address. The new email address will provide you with access to the new school system. Your login may not work immediately, because the New NDE Portal uses district-controlled SSO, and your identity information must match your new district information.

Common causes of login issues for staff who have moved:

  • Your new district’s identity provider (IdP) may not have updated your user attributes yet
  • Your email domain may have changed, and SSO hasn’t synchronized.

What to do:

  1. Contact your new school’s IT department and confirm you are properly set up in their identity system.
  2. If SSO has been updated but you still can’t log in, contact the NDE Service Desk for additional guidance.

Alternative Sign In Options (Microsoft, Google, Email/Password)

If your school system does not appear in the NebraskaCloud SSO list, the New NDE Portal provides several alternative sign‑in methods. These options appear when you select:

“If your District/System is not listed when you click the button above, click here.”

You will then see the following alternative authentication choices:

1. Sign In with Microsoft (Azure AD)

Use this option if:

  • Your school uses Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, or Microsoft Entra ID
  • You normally log into district resources with a Microsoft‑based account

What to expect:

  • You will be redirected to a Microsoft login screen
  • Enter your school Microsoft credentials
  • Multifactor authentication (MFA) may be required
  • After authenticating, you’ll return to the New NDE Portal

2. Sign In with Google

Use this option if:

  • Your school uses Google Workspace for Education
  • You normally log into Chromebook or Google accounts for school work

What to expect:

  • You will be redirected to a Google sign‑in window
  • After authenticating, you’ll return to the New NDE Portal

3. Sign In with Email and Password (Traditional Login)

Use this option if:

  • You do not have school-provided SSO
  • Your school does not appear in the NebraskaCloud SSO list (Big blue “Click Here” Button)
  • You previously created a New NDE Portal account with the traditional login

Important Notes:

  • This login is separate from the Legacy NDE Portal login
  • To create a New NDE Portal account with the email and password option, you will click the “Sign up for NDE Portal account” link.
